Policyholders Impacted by COVID-19:

Temporary Suspension of Premium Payment Program

Recently, Governor Ige issued directives for the State of Hawai`i to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. At HEMIC, we recognize that these measures will significantly impact many of our policyholders — including restaurants, bars, retail stores, services and other businesses — and we want to reassure you of our support during this time of need.

In an effort to do our part, we are pleased to offer financial relief to policyholders impacted by this sudden loss of business. If your business has been closed or significantly curtailed as a result of the State’s directives, HEMIC will temporarily suspend premium collections for invoices with due dates through April 30, 2020.

To request this support:

1. Complete the fillable form: Request for Temporary Suspension of Premium Payments.
2. Submit fully completed form to UWassist@hemic.com.
3. You will receive an email notification of your client’s qualification.
4. Clients reporting payroll through `AePay should continue to do so, even if payroll is $0.

We are pleased to provide this assistance to our customers. Mahalo for your business!

Commitment to Hawai`i Employers

When HEMIC was founded over 20 years ago as a private, mutual insurance company, our goal was to provide workers’ compensation coverage to every business owner in Hawai`i, regardless of risk level. Over the past two decades, we’ve grown into the leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance in Hawai`i, serving 6,700 businesses and 75,000 workers with a commitment to exceptional service and innovation.

Today, we remain committed to proudly serving all of Hawai`i’s employers with aloha and integrity. We understand the unique nature of Hawai`i’s workplaces because we’re one too. As a 100% local insurance carrier, we know that every customer we serve is a neighbor and member of our own community – and we value those relationships above all. We’re committed to helping improve jobsite safety and resolving all issues our customers face with the utmost malama and expediency.

We are Hawai`i’s only mutual insurance company, which means we’re owned by our policyholders. Our goals are their best interests. The HEMIC dividend program rewards good jobsite safety performance and proper claims handling by writing dividend checks to qualifying policyholders every year. Over the past thirteen years, we’ve returned over $38 million in dividends to qualifying employers.
