If one of your subcontractors causes damage to your project or the business and they don’t have the proper coverage, you could end up liable. That said, you may not need to provide liability insurance for your subcontractors, provided they are covered by a different liability policy. Ultimately, you still need to be sure that everyone responsible for your project is properly insured and you’re covered.

In Hawaiʻi, as in most states, workers’ compensation insurance does not cover volunteers, and an organization's general liability insurance may not either. Typically, volunteers are covered by their own health insurance. To cover the risk of volunteers, an organization can secure Volunteer Accident Coverage.

HEMIC’s Large Deductible Program is available for employers who have the capacity to self-insure a portion of their workers' compensation and would like the benefit of HEMIC’s expertise in claims, safety and risk management services. A large deductible program can provide employers with greater control over their workers’ compensation program and greater incentive for risk management and loss prevention, resulting in reduced workers' compensation costs over the long-term. HEMIC offers a range of deductible options, from $15,000 to $1,000,000 per occurrence, in line with NCCI’s Rating Values. Optional aggregate limits are also available, to cap the employer’s financial risk. 

‘AePay integrates with payroll services like ADP and QuickBooks to automatically report payroll and deduct premium payments from the policyholder’s bank account based on actual payroll wages. This minimizes audit variances at the end of the year. No down payment or deposit is required.

Non-construction risks can qualify for up to 13% safety credits. Construction risks can qualify for up to 18%. 

Our Safety & Risk Management team are available to all policyholders, to help them develop and implement formal safety programs.

The identity recovery services are not subject to a deductible. They include:

• Toll-free help line with counselors to answer questions and provide information on identity theft loss detection and prevention
• Access to a professional identity restoration firm which will work with the victim through the entire identity restoration process
• Case management performed by licensed investigators with experience to dig deeper.
• The option to use Limited Power of Attorney to act on the victim’s behalf
