Report Fraud

As a mutual insurance company founded to support Hawaiʻi's businesses and workers, HEMIC recognizes our responsibility to deter fraud.

Fraud impacts everyone by adding unfair costs to the system, ultimately increasing insurance expenses for honest employers and employees. Additionally, fraud is a serious crime -- fraudulent activity that exceeds $2,000 is classified as a felony. 

Understanding common types of fraud is crucial. 

Employer fraud can include:

• Not reporting cash payrolls
• Misclassifying, misrepresenting or hiding payroll
• Manipulating the experience rating system 

Worker fraud can include: 

• Filing a claim for an injury that occurred off-the-job 
• Faking an injury 
• Exaggerating symptoms 
• Malingering
